Do You Want To Get Organized?

Do you want to get organized? I do! Even at age 73, I still want to get organized!!!
I have wanted to be an organized person ever since I got married at the age of 19 because my 23-year-old husband was SO organized—and I was not! After we started having more and more children, I realized that a certain amount of routine and organization would definitely help me have less stress at home. However, I didn’t know how to change my spontaneous ways even though I read many books and articles on the subject, and I did even try other people’s suggestions from time to time.
Over the years, I learned that if I implemented a little routine in my life (but still left other blocks of time where I could be spontaneous) then I could enjoy my family life more. Somehow, with my husband’s organized personality and my own disorganized personality, we greatly enjoyed raising each of our eleven children—one day at a time!
However, the pursuit of having a little more organization and routine in my life at age 73 is still a goal—not because I want to change who I am—but because I want to accomplish more in my life. I find life-long bad habits of procrastination and the attitude of “I’ll do it later” still plague me. Fortunately, my daughter, Michelle, has been encouraging me in my organizational pursuits this last year. I’ve found it’s always great to have a cheerleader!
In January 2026, I received some inspiration on how to do things differently, which has been working great! I will share my new “schedule” that I’m trying to follow, and perhaps it will inspire you with a new idea of how you can make some little changes in your life!

Because I am a life-long learner, I love to share what I learn with others. Here is a list of three life-changing books I’ve read more than once, two websites I recently found, and two scriptures you might find motivating:
Books
Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones
by James Clear
QUOTE: “Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become. No single instance will transform your beliefs, but as the votes build up, so does the evidence of your new identity.”
Organizing from the Inside Out: The Foolproof System for Organizing Your Home, Your Office and Your Life
by Julie Morgenstern
QUOTE: “If you don't know where you are going, how will you know when you get there? Successful organizing forces you to look at the big picture, not one small section of the frame, so that the system you design will be complete.”
Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less
by Greg McKeown
QUOTE: “Essentialism is not about how to get more things done; it’s about how to get the right things done. It doesn’t mean just doing less for the sake of less either. It is about making the wisest possible investment of your time and energy in order to operate at our highest point of contribution by doing only what is essential.”
