“His Eye Is on the Sparrow”

There is a new hymnbook being published for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which will be used by congregations around the world. A new hymn, “His Eye Is on the Sparrow” caught my attention when it was first released, and I began memorizing it immediately. I love to sing it when I am feeling a bit discouraged because it lifts my spirits. I also love to sing it when I’m already feeling happy because I’m so grateful to know that Jesus is “my constant friend” as the song so eloquently states! I hope you will enjoy listening to this inspiring song!
“His Eye Is on the Sparrow”
1.
Why should I feel discouraged?
Why should the shadows come?
Why should my heart be lonely
And long for heav’n and home,
When Jesus is my portion?
My constant Friend is He:
His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.
I sing because I’m happy—
I sing because I’m free—
For His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.
2.
“Let not your heart be troubled.”
His tender word I hear,
And resting on His goodness,
I lose my doubt and fear.
Though by the path He leadeth,
But one step I may see:
His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.
I sing because I’m happy—
I sing because I’m free—
For His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.
3.
Whenever I am tempted,
Whenever clouds arise,
When songs give place to sighing,
When hope within me dies,
I draw the closer to Him;
From care He sets me free:
His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.
I sing because I’m happy—
I sing because I’m free—
For His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.
