Reflections on Marriage―Q is for Quiet

An empty barrel does not have water to share. I believe in filling my barrel every day, not only so I can fill full and refreshed myself, but also so I have something to give to others around me. Filling my barrel is not difficult to do, but it does take time and the knowledge of where to go to seek a pure source of living water—which is through our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Take time to find quiet solitude each day and learn how to really meditate. I agree with the quote from David O. McKay: “Meditation is the language of the soul. . . . [It] is one of the most secret, most sacred doors through which we pass into the presence of the Lord.”

The article Be Still: Finding Inner Peace and a Deeper Connection to Christ Through Meditation has been a great source of inspiration for me on the topic of meditation.

Quiet

Quiet
solitude each day,
with time for
reflective scripture reading,
journal writing, prayer,
and meditation will
restore your reservoirs
and bestow great
spiritual depth and
energy to enrich
your marriage relationship.

Neglect not the gift that is in thee,
which was given thee by prophecy. . . .

Meditate upon these things;
give thyself wholly to them. . . .

—1 Timothy 4: 14-15
